Make disciples who make disciples
Jesus gives a clear commandment to His disciples to make disciples:
"And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV)
SO How do we do make disciples who make disciples?
We emphasize God’s Word.
God’s Word is central to what we do here at Timberline. It is through God’s Word we are equipped and transformed to become more like Jesus. We emphasize the preaching of God’s Word on Sundays, individual Bible studies throughout the week, and groups of disciples gathering to study God Word on a regular basis.
Eph 4:11-16; 1 Thess 1:8, 2:13
We commit to the church.
We have been saved to be a part of the body of Jesus (the church). Therefore we emphasize the necessity of building relationship with one another, sharing each others burdens, using our gifts, holding one another accountable, studying God’s Word together, etc…
1 Cor. 12; Romans 12:3-8; Gal. 6:1-2
We share the gospel with those near and far.
In order for someone to be a disciple they must know the gospel of Jesus Christ. Therefore we see every disciple as a missionary who is called to share the gospel in their local context. But because there are people all over the world who need to know Jesus, we believe it is necessary for us to support missionaries and agencies as well as physically go and share God’s Word.
Col 4:3; Rom 10:13-15; John 20:21; Luke 10:2; Acts1:8
We pray.
Salvation comes by the grace of God. Therefore we emphasize the importance of praying for the church and the world. We pray the church (local and universal) would grow in their knowledge and obedience to God’s Word. We pray that as the church shares God’s Word throughout the world, that God would pour forth His grace and bring about salvation.
